spark problems again for the disco1v8? ?HELP!!!

I bought a new Lucas coil from Ritters a while back. That is what was supplied to replace the Bosch one. Was around $100 from memory. As others have said no aftermarket people had a listing to replace the standard Bosch one. After thinking about it for a while I believe any brand of coil would work as well as any other. There was nothing special about the bosch one. Your problem sounds like the ignition amplifier. Replace it and you should have no more problems.
Or if your distibutor is worn and needs some work buy a scorcher distributor which uses Holden and Ford Bosch parts you can buy anywhere. Costs around $600.

I had this same issue with a Range Rover, with a similar electronic ignition setup. Took me a couple of months to work it out. I took it to two Range Rover specialists, spent several hundred dollars chasing it. Symptoms were that occasionally the car would just bog down and die. Replaced the ignition module and that improved it for several months. Then it came back... Eventually whilst draining the fuel filter to check for water, I happened to bump the cables to the ignition module, and that made the engine run again. On a closer look the spade connector inside the cable was a little loose, with vibration it would drop connection and kill the engine. Then with enough cranking it would catch again. A quick twist of the pliers and no issue now for the last 200,000k's...

Annoyingly it would never conk out whilst looking for the issue, so no mechanic could find it. Was pure luck I did find it because the cable looked perfect.

My experience is that if the coil is not open circuit or short circuit, then it's fine. Those electronic modules seem to be pretty indestructable. In a Land Rover the most likely issue is a dodgy connector.

p.s The electronic module for mine was to cost a few hundred, but they are the same as some common vehicles and I got mine from Repco for $32. Same module.

well i have now taken out the radiator and the dissy.
im going to get the radiator rodded to eliminate the over heasting issues.
took dissy out to replace ignition module and going to fix the vaccume advace while im there...

so all up with new parts and radiator rodded will set me back another $300

i hope to get her back togather next weekend, but the missus doesnt want spend any more dollars on the "piece of crap" pfft

the original coil wasnt playing up after all, so now i got a msd just as a spare..... even though i reckon it runs better with it..

yeah all sorted, got a vacume advance and a new ignition module on order..
both where very reasonably priced.
as for coils i have tested the old one and theres nothing wrong with it as the ignition module was the culprit............


so ill keep the msd as a spare..
