My Engel works on 12V but not 240? Need to use a transformer.
No idea how to fix it but I assume its something major as my dad is an elec engineer and he didnt fix it.....

I had the same. The engel agent in Newman replaced the power supply, then that caused the compressor to go, not sure how, but engel supplied the parts again under warranty as there was a fault with the new power supply.
It has not really been the same since though and seems to run more than it did and flatten batteries much quicker.
The unit is around 17 years old now though.

Not sure if you still need a repairer, but here's the Engel agents list. I think the one at Underwood is the one we used about 6 years ago to repair the dial on our Engel - did a good job for a reasonable charge.
Re the query about the current draw of the old Engel, buying an insulation cover for it might also help. Also make sure you have a nice big deep cycle battery obviously - we just bought a 110amp AGM.
