    The universal A/C never fails

This is exactly what mine does /// The A/C is blowing cold ... but ... I can feel heat coming out the side of it near the floor

Doesn't matter now tho ....cause the compressor is shot

I am trying to work out how to replace it with a Mitsi A/C as I have the full A/C & heater unit with controls from a 96 Magna

"Funny" thing happened to my NL Fairlane ....

Aircon no worky ... Took it to Auto spark ... He declares that it has plenty of gas ... and all the system is fine ... And ..yep there was plenty

So I go to Ford Dealer

They test for fault codes ... They declared .... "None"

Both say ...."It's the TX valve"

So I go home and start to RIP out the dash to get at TX valve

Ring a "travelling Aircon service man" and ask him to look at and change the valve and fill up the system

HE says ... Why don't we just empty & refill the system properly? ... before we go any further

    "OK ... Give it a go .... I say's"

So the man empties & then refills it with THE CORRECT WEIGHT of gas

WELL ****** ME DRUNK ....It works like a charm

So I spent the next 2 days putting the dash back properly

It would be good to hear also

    Mike

    Thanks Mike ...Interesting that.
There is a mid 80s Rangie around in central west NSW with a late Windsor and Falcon dash air con etc. I've been told I works very well.
If I can't get this one right I will have to do something along these lines. There would be a lot of work in it. A late D1 dash with duel air may be the best way for me. Will try to sort the original and see what happens.

Be good to hear some other people's experiences on these.

Angry TX Bloked valve and compessor now rattles

I had the system checked by air con mob and is still making preasure to TX valve and then drops big time They suggest valve is blocked.Looks like we have killed the compessor as well now rattles
Looks like I'm up for a compressor, drier, TX valve and evaporator
I have a spare low kay 90 model down at Rutherglen so lets hope aircon is still good on it.

I still think it would be a good idea to stop the hot coolant going into heater core. Having any heat in cab doesn't help. leaks etc.

On our tractors here I have put a tap to stop heat going to cab and works well.
As we all know most others have a heater tap

I think the Rangie may need a by pass set up to allow coolant flow.

    Nothing like spares

I would agree on that ...

I wouldn't just shut the water flow ... as that would allow a build up of any air locks

You have mentioned putting a D1 dash into a RRC. Is it a straight swap. Reason I ask is that I am currently in the process of stripping my 81 2 door for a rebuild and the dash is knackered, so looking at other options.

I wrecked a classic rangie with a pre-update dash a few years ago, the firewall is very much the same, but you'd be up for a few mods with the later dash, heater and AC hose location etc

I suspect not straight forward but has the hues to fit.
I have a 94 disco here now so if the old set up doesnt come good. Out with the old and in with the new. This thread shows it can be donehttp://www.aulro.com/afvb/projects-tutorials/36343-rangie-ute-conversion-13.html A quote from the thread....dash mounts are completely different so that was the biggest time waster pulling the damn thing in and out 1 million times to make sure it was right but everything lines up and fits
If I do this I have to decide what engine to run. The blown V8 or 300 TDI As the rangie is a tourer now days fuel consumption is not a big issue as not my dayly driver anymore. The 4BD1T 120" covers it well

So I'm keen to keep the V8 for now.
