Not being familiar enough with the ashcroft flanges etc, why are you removing the bush? You only need to actually cut the seal lip away with a knife to render it useless. If, however the CV is being upgraded and the inner dimpled bush needs to be removed,then you can't get it out without inflicting too much damage as far as I know.

When I removed the seal you are talking about in mine I managed to fold it in half and pull it out one side and just cut the rubber out on the other side. Never touched the brass bush.

The seal is removed to have oil lubed bearings (as well as the axle shaft seal). Don't forget to use double lipped hub seals.

thanks guys, I was going to replace the bush thats all ,the car is getting some loving before I regerster it. I have removed the seal completly. I will just leave it as not to damage the bush, living in darwin and getting parts is crazy.

I didn't think the bushes could be removed, I thought that was a job for a new stub axle?

You would be correct!!

no you can remove and replace them,I have a catalogue from fwd with a part no:OT17, in the 110 and Defender section. And the manual gives you a special tool number to use to remove it, there is a seal behind the bush,you don't think you would have to replace the whole hub just to change a seal do you. it's just a matter of doing your home work.

You must be smoking some good stuff Andrew. Dannie and I removed the bushes from his D1 stubs a couple of weeks ago.

You only need to remove them (and mod the stubs) if you are fitting ashcroft CVs, not just flanges.

Must have been!! I did mine about 3 years ago...... What was I thinking of???????????? Think after 4 years, I need a holiday....................
