91 Classic. Thermo Fans won't shut off?

    Hi Guys,
On the odd occasion that I use the air conditioner, I find that the thermo fans won't shut off when I turn everything off.
They just keep rinning until the battery goes flat.
The only way to stop them is to pull the fuses and that resets it all back to normal.
I do suspect the Condenser Fan relay might be at fault but have no idea where to find it.
This is my first air conditioned Rangie, all others have been models where one relies on the quarter vent windows for hot days.......
    Cheers,
    Shirley...

RE: A/C Condenser fans won't shut off.

    Hi Guys,
Removed the drivers side kick panel and tested all relays there.
Unfortunately this made no difference as there seems to be another relay supplying power to the fans, possibly on the high amperage side of the circuit.
I guess I really need to fine someone who has had this problem and found the remedy but thanks to all who have offered ideas and help so far, you are all very much appreciated.
    Best wishes,
    Shirley.

The fans are also triggered by the over temp switch on the side of the thermostat housing.
It cuts in a 98C ( according to another poster)
Disconnect the switch and see if it changes.
If it is the switch you will need a new switch or a new headgasket.

    Hi Phillip,
The engine is running spot on and I put a lower temperature thermostat in it about 6 months ago for the Australian Summer conditions.
Where the problem lies is with the Air Conditioner condenser fan system.
It's only happened three times in the last 6 months but it appears that a relay of some sort is jamming when the A/C is switched on and not shutting off when the ignition is turned off, regardless of engine temperature.
I ignored it once and got a flat battery for my trouble.
I am pretty sure the system is designed to keep running when the ignition is turned off then shut down when the temp drops to the required level because our 3.9 Disco works the same way, except it cuts out about a couple of minuted after the vehicle is turned off. I think I just need to find which sensor or relay is causing the problem.
I will try the one on the thermostat housing and see what happens the next time it happens.
    Thanks heaps,
    Shirley.....

    That would be me!!
I think it still operates the same relay, but as its another circuit, it is worth investigating.
