    Converting Generator to Alternator

I would like to replace the Generator on my MF35 Tractor with an Alternator.
This means converting from positive to earth, to negative to earth.
I believe you must do something to the starter motor, from memory, but not sure.
I am also going to rewire the tractor - what little wiring there is.
    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks, Erich

The starter motor is untouched on +ve to -ve conversions.

You need to join a couple of wires & change the position of another at the regulator box though.

Does this have Lucas electrics ?

Thanks, I am getting rid of the regulator, putting in a new ignition switch and wiring the alternator as standard, using the ignition light. Just that I remember from somewhere that the starter motor had to be flashed or something to allow it to operate with the + to the solenoid instead of the negative.

It's the regulator points that need to be flashed to repolarise the generator.
You're using an alternator so no more use for the points.

I changed the gen on a mini to an alternator and changed polarity.

Took the starter to an auto elec and he showed me that they are a universal motor and will spin the same way irrespective of polarity, so they would even run on ac. Said thanks and took my starter home put it in the vehicle and all was good. I used an alternator with an external regulator and just took it off the donor car.

    she'll be right mate
