I'm not sure, but I think it was the 4.0l 6cyl called the 2H
My cousin has bought a 1987 70 series cruiser ute, and is having it trucked back to Vic from WA very soon. It will need some work to get it running smoothly and I assumed it would have a 1HZ. Went I went to pick up some filters etc I was told the 1HZ didn't debut in the 70 until 1990.
What diesel engines were offered for 1987?
I'm not sure, but I think it was the 4.0l 6cyl called the 2H
Cheers

My old man has one in his 60 Series. It has ~500,000kms but leads a fairly sedate life these days. My Dad drives like, well... my Grandma.
I think it is a good donk.I still like the TD42 in my Patrol better though, but I digress...

I know you have been told but yep it's a 2H, pretty reliable motor. but it's still a bloody leaf sprung harsh piece of crap you should have told him to get a rover, coils all round and disc brakes much better car.![]()
The 2H ran in the HJ75 from 11/84 to 12/89 with the 1HZ in the HZJ75 from 1/90 to 12/98. All have common suspension. Then came the 78/79 series with modified 1HZ and ran till last year.
Things to watch out for in a HJ75 is the gearbox and transfer. Same as whats in the HZJ75 basically but different input shaft and one or two other minor things. If its running normal everyday mineral gearbox oil, drain it and use a synthetic as they have a habit of running hot and sludging the oil.
Get a transfer level hose in it too if it doesnt already. basically a hose linking the gearbox and transfer cases to stop everything flowing into the t/fer box and not being able to get back out again. This happens thru the seal on the g/box to t/fer.
Parts are very easy to get and cheap too.
If its a trayback, watch out for the windscreen frame rusting, although they are replaceable but dont get the Chinese ones or fibreglass, go for a genuine item. If its a troopie, you cant replace them.
Check that the block cast number ends in 68030 if its an '87. Anything else is out of a 60 series and will be different in a few ways. Heads are common thru all of them and still readily available. I stock plenty of them.
They do respond reasonably well to an aftermarket turbo kit, but dont overdo it. Better off trying to get a good 12HT if thats the case.
Cheers
Andrew.
