    turbo info

Just wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction. Just trying to find some info on a turbo i have, as in size and compatability.
Its a GT2260v vnt, part# 753959.0005. It comes of a 3.0l Iveco daily (fiat) of late 2000's. Different variants of this turbo also came on BMWx5's, and mercedes.
So can anyone help? Main reason is i'm wondering if it would work on a Mazda SL35 (3.5l). Physically it looks big, a little to big actually, but thats the motors they come off.

    Hi Vern,

AFAIK the VNT units from that late Iveco engines etc are electronically controlled, IE the nozzle control is done using a vacuum control valve via the ECU, NOT like an earlier VNT unit that has a pressure controlled actuator. This means that you will have to either source the correct turbo, or find out from someone familiar with the problem whether they overcame it by swapping to a different actuator/ control.?

Not being familiar with turbo's, by the actuater you mean the diaghram thing that hangs off the side of the turbo (looks like small brake booster)?
The mitsu one i have is plumbed into the turbo housing, the garret one isn't, but there is a spot where one could/is tapped into the housing.
will post a pick when i can.

The vacuum actuator can be swapped for a normal waste gate actuator.

Some have modified the vacuum actuator to make it boost pressure actuator.

The latest mod gaining popularity is to make them cable plus boost operated.

Having had a VGT on my Series for some time now, I'll pipe up. My vanes are controlled by a cable and springs hooked to the go pedal. Vanes are forced normally open by a spring. The cable hooks to a stronger spring, and when you step on the accel pedal, it overcomes the weaker spring, closing the vanes. A boost actuator will overcome both springs when the desired boost is reached, opening the vanes. There are various configurations based on this general idea that are now running on VW engines on vwdiesel.net, and no one, myself included has anything bad to say about how they work. Also having the vanes controlled by throttle position helps with fuel economy as the exhaust is only restricted when you need more power.
The pics show the setup referred to, with the cable and actuator in the different operating conditions.

Note also the modified vacuum actuator that has had the can cut open, the internals swapped to operate with boost pressure and flanges to bolt it back together.

He has since added a tab to the rotary lever that the cable is attached to, so that it lifts the link to the vane controller (the black part with the knurled nut).
