is there a syncro on LT95 reverse or are they all just clunky?

reason i ask is my old LT95 I changed because it lost reverse.
the replacement now grinds now and again if i dont let the revs die right down before using reverse.
Is this normal for an LT95?

    mine does!
i didn't think any car had synchro in reverse, every car i've had has had to let the revs die down before changing into reverse. the LT95 is a clunky box, and therefore can be a little hard to knock into gear if things aren't just right.
mine doesn't like going back into first on cold mornings, i even snapped the gearstick off at the pivot ball at the bottom. if it ever happens to you, the gearstick is shrink fitted into the ball. i had to drill it out and re-shrink it in. this wasn't entirely successful, it popped out again a week later. i did it again and welded the mongrel.
    it aint coming off now!

No syncros on reverse is correct, the reverse idler gear is straight cut and slides in and out of mesh when selected.Unlike the forward gears which are in constant mesh.

The LT95, like most gearboxes, does not have synchromesh on reverse. Engaging reverse while the vehicle is moving or failure to allow the gears to stop after disengaging the clutch will eventually result in damage to the reverse idler gear or the gears it engages with.

Synchromesh on reverse, and indeed on first, are relatively recent "improvements" to gearboxes, intended to make the gearboxes more resistant to unskilled drivers.

    No synchro, its normal

Only rover box that came with synchro on reverse, in the quite late R380s

Pretty call for mashing reverse - first in a bog hole

OK, OK, so its just my ham fisted gear changes.
I'll just be more carful, got to ask though
