Hi, just replaced springs and shocks in my 84 rangie with Dobinsons springs and shocks. Went with these as I had them on my ex cruiser(sold to nephew) and did approx 2ooks towing 24ft van and offroading. After 6yrs still going strong. Cost for spring shock package $860. Australian company, makes all their own and will post anywhere. Company located Rocky and Sydney. Bob H
The Bilsteins were much cheaper when the aussie dollar was strong against the greenback.
I got a set of 4 shocks + steering damper for my 90 for approx $560(AUD) delivered to my door from Bilstein Shocks, Edelbrock Shocks and more: eShocks.com.
That's when the aussie was trading at 0.89c - it is now ~0.63ish, so you'd be looking at about 30% more... which would come out to about the $800 dollar mark Pat mentioned.
Cheers

Don't wastew your money on cheap shockies. The 130 heavy duty springs are probably the cause of the hard ride. I have just been throught the exercise of replacing springs etc and have ended up with Dobinson fronts and standard 110 rears (spaced up to match ride height at the front) combined with genuine Landrover shockies - 110 fronts and 130 rears both sets fitted with 60mm extensions. Over many years I have found the genuine shockies to give the best ride with good suspension control - I get about 50000ks out of a set in very harsh conditions. I have been thinking of changing to Konis in due course - Koni 90s - but will probably have to get Koni to sften the valving.

They wont stop body roll, thats what swaybars are for, but if your shocks are shot, you will get more roll than normal. If you dont have swaybars, nothing will stop the roll, it may just reduce it slightly.
I have Bilsteins in the Classic but my only gripe is they tend to get a bit soft when it warms up outside. On a cold morning you can really feel the difference in the ride.

a damper/shock absorbers low speed circuit effects the rate of roll, ie. the speed at which the vehicle will assume it's ultimate roll, but as a few have pointed out, only anti-roll bars and/or stiffer springs reduce the total amount of roll.
It seems to be the norm to replace LR springs with ''heavy duty'' springs,I hate that phrase as everything from toasters to toolboxs are called that now,and for the life of me I don't know why.On a daily driver the standard defender springs with koni, billies are the go,only go heavier rate if it carries a load or bullbar, winch etc is on the front if not you may just as well buy a leaf sprung vehicle.I like koni's as they are good on LR's straight out of the box, just bolt on and drive away. I bought a set of "130 Front Springs"For my old Defender just before I had the accident. So I already have some to switchover, these will go in because I have the chronic front end stoop due to a winch and bar.
Think Ill go the Konis or Bilsteins one of the two. Maybe a 2 inch lift while Im at it, but that wont be anytime soon. I cant afford them just yet
With the body roll. I must have had different springs as well as shockies in the old Landrover. As there is one corner I notice the difference on, the old Landrover had a lot softer ride and seemed to loll about a lot more. While the new standard Defender has a much harder, poised ride
(Geez you can tell from those descriptions I studied English this year)
Thanks
