Thread: Rear shocker D1

I need to change my rear shockers very badly, asap (ie defect notice badly).

If I put two std length Bilsteins in, then lift the thing 40mm in Jan, will the std Bilsteins be ok or will I need to replace them with longer ones?

Likewise, if I put the +40mm shockers on now, will that be a problem with the std springs?

I know the solution is to do all springs and shockers +40mm at once, but I haven't the cash to do it using decent shockers ATM - and I'd rather wait than put cheap shocks on.

I think that you'll find that most shocks that are used with a 2" lift are not significantly longer so as to cause problems with OE springs. 2" lift springs are typically stiffer, so the free length of the spring are something around OE length anyway. What I have found is that OE springs have a fair bit of compression in them with the standard shocks when fully extended. Unless things have changed also, you'll probably find that the Bilstein which is an excellent shock, is not necessarly the longest shock out there anyway.

I think you'll be fine running shocks for a 40mm lift (although the shocks are not 40mm longer) with standard coils until you can get some.
