Thread: Rear Power For Fridge

I have Evacool fridges (same compressor) the older of the two has a pretty high low voltage cut out point. However both fridges cut out as nearly as soon as the charging source is removed – (engine stopped, or no sun on solar panels) – when run through standard cig lighter plugs both on the boat and in car.

Give drivesafe (Traxide) a PM, he has all the gear for what you are doing and also lots of good info on the correct way too do it.

There have been a couple of threads on a similar subject lately - maybe try a search.

Waeco make a fridge wiring kit specifically for this - a RAPS something or other - I've used those and they are easy to fit and have the right sized wiring for your needs - I think they're about 80 bucks.

If you wanted to save a bit you could buy the cable and bits and make up similar yourself. I think I used about 10 mm cable for mine, just cause it was free.

I think you'll find Drivesafe (Traxide) has all the bits you need in a kit and it'll cost you less, or be better than anything you buy commercially. All his details are at www.traxide.com.au I think, or just google it.

Piddler he gets a bit busy but is definitly worth while.

i have fitted out (dual battery and rewire) my boat pretty much exclusively with his stuff and it all been very good quality.. just need a little patience getting hold of him

I have most of the stuff now for doing the d2 second battery.. apart from the one thing he doesnt sell... time!

ps i run an engel with no problem from the rear.. they should only draw about 2.5a and voltage drop shouldnt be that bad i wouldnt of thought.

Piddler, we are having lots of fun and games with some locals ( but thats another story ), so it’s hard to get me before 10 AM your time because of daylight saving but you will get my answer machine after that if I’m not there and I’ll get back to you.

Engel fridges will run in just about any set-up but Waeco fridges are for some unknown reason ( they both use the same compressor ) are very voltage sensitive and need to have heavy cable run to the rear to minimise voltage drop.

I think you will find that Waeco use a Danfoss compressor & Engel have their own Sawafuji system.
