Freelander starting woes

G'day all!
Silvia's recently purchased Freelander (Td4, auto, MY´03) has recently been playing up and refused to start at some occasions, usually after having been driven for about an hour or so. After the engine being turned off for a few minutes up until half an hour it refused to start, although cranking freely. After waiting for a certain amount of time (from another half an hour up to several hours) the car will start without any problem.
The fault occurs intermittently, so you never know when incidents will occur, but recently we had two consecutive events. We have checked for

fuel (tank is sufficiently filled)
vacuum in the tank (unlikely)
fuel leaks (none discovered)

Any suggestions how to sort out this annoying fault are welcome!!!

Sounds like a sensor problem, There would be an engine over temp pump cut out, possibly after switching engine off heat soak may be triggering cut out, Is engine running at elevated temp at all ? After running on hwy, or towing if in doubt leave idle running for few minuets with heater on full before turning off. Also i think No 1 injector got some electrikery involved with it. If happens again see if you can determine engine imobilisor is ok, light flashing not flashing etc, if happens near shops could be interference, try roll car elsewhere, must be a reason, but then again it is a land rover ps should probably be in the expensivelander section.

Is the check engine light on? If not it is unlikely to be a direct engine issue - then possibly a fuel lift pump issue or blocked fuel filter.
