Question 4 Cyl motor in 6 cyl chassis??

I am sure this question has been posed on the forum before, but I ca'nt find reference to it so I will ask.

Can a 4cyl LR motor be installed in a 6 cyl chassis?

Apart from the bell housing on the gearbox having to be changed, what else would have to be modified.

If anyone knows the answer (I'm sure someone does) I would love to know.

The six cylinder engine sits further back. The simplest thing to do would be to install the four in this position. This would involve changing the bell housing, and moving the engine mounts to suit, plus either extending the fan shroud or fitting an electric fan. Plus, of course, minor plumbing issues.

The alternative, involving a lot more work, would be to fit a four cylinder bulkhead and floor, and move the gearbox and transfer case forward. This would probably still require changing the engine mounts, but would also mean moving the gearbox cross member, and replacing both prop shafts.

    Thanks John.

I think I prefer the former alternative to the latter.

    Cheers!
