Air Con Reciever/Dryer Question
Hi All
A small problem with the Defender Air Con.
The switch dohickey (technical term) that is connected to the reciever/dryer has stoped working. I have power to one side of the dohickey when the air con sysytem is activated but no power leaving the dohickey which means that the Air con does not blow cold air.
If I remove the dohickey to buy a new one, will I lose all my gas????
Thanks folks
Cheers
Ben

I thought it was a lack of gas that caused the switch to turn off thus protecting the compressor.
I maybe wrong I thought that's how it worked someone wiser will be along to tell you I'm sure

most have 2 protection switches, high pressure (common cause for this one to operate is blocked tx valve) and low pressure switch (common fault is lack of gas). Fit a new reciever dryer (also a filter), charge system with inert gas and check for leaks and rectify, vac the system and recharge with approved gas.

Just to add
To check low pressure switch, bypass. On startingthe aircon you will see a couple of bubble in the glass eye in the reciever dryer and then it will run clear. If there is lots of bubbles you are low on gas. Do the above

Some have one switch that does the two functions, cuts out at a preset high pressure,& also at a preset low pressure.
If the systm has not been worked on recently,HP is usually caused by electric fan not operating,or condenser clogged with dirt etc.Low pressure at reciever/drier is systm out of refrigerant.
I would bridge it out quickly & see if systm runs & cools as pressure switch itself could be faulty as said.If it is out on HP,it will auto reset & run for a while until it trips again.
More than likely system is out of gas
You really need to put a guage on systm to tell exactly what is wrong
Hope this helps
As for changing switch(if it is faulty),dunno, some you can change without losing charge, some you cant ,dont do much auto stuff
