Interesting. Same LR, same tyre size swap, same problems I've had. I wonder why?
I own a 1998 disco when i changed my standard tyres from size 205/80/16 to 225/75/16 the steering at speed is vague and very sensitive to any steering input,i have swapped the tyres back to the 205/80/16 and the steering and handling is fine all the tyres are nearly new why such a dramatic change to the vehicle between the different tyre sizes

ah, maybe tread pattern, tread block height, composition of the rubber and tyre pressures.
cheers phil
The only difference is 25mm in height and about the same in width
It is possible that the swivel preload is barely adequate for the standard tyres, but does not give sufficient damping with the larger tyres, leaving the steering right on the verge of shimmy all the time.
Similarly, if any of the suspension bushes have gone a bit soft or have a bit of free play, this may not show up with the standard tyres, but the additional load resulting from the wider tyres may be just enough to cause movement, where the lesser leverage from the smaller tyres does not. Any of the bushes could cause this, but the panhard rod and front radius arm bushes would be the most likely.

different manufacturer but they are all terrain tyres
i don't have any shimmy just the steering is very quick or sensitive at highway speed
Are the rims with the new tyres the same ones, or different ones with a different offset?
same rims
