    defender td5 light switch

    Hi Guys,
My light switch melted down about 6 weeks ago, had it replaces and it's just done it again.
Where do I start the trouble shooting on this one.
    Cheers

What wattage headlight bulbs do you have?

Do you have spot lights wired in teh same circuit?

    Do you have relays added?

Basically if you are running brighter bulbs through teh switch they will blow. The circuit isnt fitted with a relay.

Tim (Drivesafe) on here does a kit with relays and so on.

    Hi m8,

It's still stock standard (well the spots are on but I have not had time to connect them yet).

    Cheers

Was the switch a genuine LR one or aftermarket?

As Pete says - the problem is almost certainly that you have higher wattage than standard headlight bulbs or extra lights run through the switch. What you need to do (even if you go back to standard bulbs) is to add a headlight relay(s).

If the globes are all standard wattage, look for a bad earth connection.

    Guys,

Have not checked the bulbs I'll check them and let you know. Not sure if it's an aftermarket or not, it was around $100 so a guess it's after market.

When the head lights are on, does anyone know what kind of amps should be running throught the wires?

Off the records, the clutch is still hasseling me, suppose I should get a new one before I get stranded out in the sticks.

Will let you know shortly about the bulbs.

    Cheers

Ok, checked the bulbs and they are 60/55w.

Could be the switch if it was aftermarket, the old one use to like fall/klick in place, the new one never did, it was more of a soft push into the third position.

In my opinion this could hace caused it, if the connexion is slow it could lead to sparks and if they then have as small gap it could melt. don't know what do you guys think
