I hope someone has a good answer to this as my partners 96 D1 is doing it too. Pat
A few months ago I noticed a kind of wheezing noise coming from under my bonnet of my 1997 D1 V8, which can best be described as a "eeeee" noise when typed, in situations where my car was idling or at low revs and doing lots of steering such as finding a parking spot at Ikea on a Sunday. I also found my steering was getting increasingly heavy.
My investigations at the time pointed me towards getting some Lucas Power Steering Additive and giving that a go. Initially it worked - the noise went away and the steering felt a lot better even though it wasn't as good as I remembered it being.
However, after a couple of months of using the power steering additive the wheezing noise and the heavy steering have returned.
Is my Power Steering Pump on its way out or could there be something else causing the problem? I already did a search but couldn't find any previous posts that seem to match my query...
Thanks!
Edit: Apologies to Ron for my erroneous use of an apostrophe in the title. I noticed my mistake the moment I started the thread but can’t go back to edit the title.

don't worry about Grammar and spelling
Sam , I replaced all my oil lines from the Power steering Pump to the steering box and from the steering box back to the Oil Resoviuor ,for this same reason , the high pressure lines weren't maintaining Oil pressure for the Hydarulics to work properly eg ,, on Left/right turns of the steering wheel in car parks etc , same noise was being introduced as you described.
Edit:Just one thing Sam , just on close inspection , are there any Oil leaks on any of the High pressure Oil lines from your Pump to your steering Box and back again ,when was the last time they've been replaced?
Yep we've just been through all that, ours went noisy and the steering got heavy, we didn't worry about it until the pump seezed.
Bought a new one and problem fixed
So i recomend replacing it before it s**ts it's self in the middle of nowhere

Possibly an unnecessary comment, but have you tried bleeding the system.
There is a bleed screw on top of the steering box.
Mine has a "moan" from time to time, but a few "figure eights" seems to correct it.

Unfortunately my mechanical skills, equipment and facilities are somewhat lacking so I'll be getting my local Landy specialist to have a look at this.
It's not really a moan, it is more of a higher pitched noise
