    Unhappy Alternator probs

    Hi
    Got a series 1 3.5 V8 , replaced alt , 14.2 v to battery but charge light stays on dimmly at idle , glows bright at revs , any ideas

    Often a bad earth and the light gets brighter as the load increases.
    Run a jump start wire directly from the battery negative to the alternator body and see if it goes out. If yes then bad earth. So clean the earths.

    You can do the same CAREFULLY from the alternator positive thick wire terminal to the battery positive.
    But it's usually one of the earths.
    The red light measures a difference in voltage between the battery positive and alternator positive. no difference = no light.
