Thread: 4 Bolt Power Steering Box 96 Tdi Disco

Hi Folks,
I have pulled out my Power Steering box as it **** it self due to a slow leak combined with water damage from last months Brisbane floods. I went to get it reconditioned (for $550) but I was told that it was too far gone and the main shaft would need Hot-Spray-Welding, Cold grinding, as well as all the bearing replaced - the Power Steering mob didn't want to fix it!!!

So my options now are, to find someone who could Hot-spray-weld the shaft etc and then take the whole lot back to a steering center to get it put back together with new bearings etc. (No idea about the pricing of that option)
or
pay $500 for a second hand one from the Wreckers with no guarantee that it won't be damaged too (can I visually inspect the condition to see if there are signs of damage?)
or
pay $900 for a reconditioned one from the same Wreckers with a 2yr warranty with $200 cash back for my old power steering box.
(Keeping in mind I'm a Uni student on bugger all $$)

Does anyone know someone or somewhere that offer reasonable prices for reconditioned or second hand power steering box's.

Steering box companies have a habit of doing that.... we sent in a RRC one a few years ago, and they wouldnt do it... without a surcharge.. We had a few though, so kept sending them until they got bored and did it.... took 3 attempts from memory...
