Thread: 300tdi auto question

how much difference is there between the v8 and diesel boxes?
are the diesel boxes rare or am i just not looking hard enough?

Valve body, converter dimensions, kickdown cam and cable, governor circuit, they are basically set up to behave differently for the 2 opposite performing engines. You could fit a v8 box behind the Tdi using the bellhousing and front pump etc but it would have totally incorrect pressures and shift points.

Ive been told the main difference to worry about is the front shaft is mounted in a rubberised bearing but I havnt seen it my self and Im just going off what one of the guys from the auto shop where my mate used to work has told me there.

Apparently and again this is only hear say, but the V8 box wont last long due to the vibrations more than anything else.

The shift patterns etc can be sorted easilly through valve body mods but the input shaft vibrations will kill it pretty quick.

To me this sounds feasable but again I havnt had a V8 and diesel one apart to see it my self but I do know that there is about $500 to $1000 difference in the price of them second hand but are both around $3k to rebuild properly.
