Is an air tank worthwhile ?

In my 130 twincab I put a BushRanger Maxair in the under floor compartment under the rear seats and had a 5 gallon air tank in the rear inner arch behind the axle.
I then routed two push-in air connectors to each side of the truck mounted at the sides of the rear seats and used a 120psi pressure cut-off switch to shut off the compressor when the tank was upto pressure.

It gave me a good head start when pumping up tires etc but it wouldn't be enough to run a windy gun etc.....I've now seen the light and purchased a WARN VTC which does everything I need and more....it pumps up the tires on three vehicles in the time it takes the MaxAir to do one!

Negative side is...it costs five times more than the MaxAir.

Streaky the Warn will still not hold a candle to the compressor on my Series 2B - 4 cylinders, PTO driven, will run a rattle-gun or jack hammer and still pump up the tyres on your three vehicles and the 36" ones on the SIIB quicker than the Warn VTC. :D :D :D

There used to be a RRc that regularly went to Graeme Cooper Automotive in Sydney who had turned the front diff protector bar into an air tank, it worked well but not enough volume even at 100PSI. Having 2 the length of your sliders sounds like a great idea.

130 dual cab.
Under tray is 75L of dieso.

So my aircon compressor now feeds an ex 240V compressor 22L tank which I have squeezed under the drivers tools box with an Al bash plate. It sits just level with the chassis. No rock crawling for me so Im not worried.

The compressor runs to 150psi blow off no worries. 22L at 150psi is a lot of poke!

Air is used for tyres / air tools / soon to be maxi locker / pressurises water tank under passenger sill.

I got the tank from that ebay compressor rebuilder. <$30 delivered which is $100 less than the only truck wrecker up here wanted for an ex truck tank.

Just do it! And then when the Maxair dies just feed the tank with your aircon!

No a custom jobby. The vehicle was first used by Nickel Mines Ltd between 1968 and 1972 then later as a service unit for broadacre farming equipment so the conversion was done by one of those. I'm not sure which one, me being the third owner but I guess I can always ask the P.O.

I must lift the hatch and take some piccys, because as we know "it didn't happen without pictures". :D

P.S. Yes I'll keep it functioning as a bit of LR history.

Mine is mounted in the tray. It's only a 12 litre so now I'm thinking of getting a bigger tank.

Already done, just fitted them, have to run air line next.

Can't use my air con compressor as its used for the umm air con !

What pressure could I run in the tank given it is being fed by a Bushranger max air ?

I'm no expert on these things but I heard that the start up pressure rating of these compressors is vital to ensure against burn outs etc.
Cols110 had this exact issue when running a compressor in his 110 recently.

My 130 had a 5 gallon tank and a 120psi pressure cut of switch...it ran for about four years and was still going strong when I sold it.
