    SLS problems....again

Looking to tap into the awesome knowledge of the forum yet again.

Last night after returning home I turned of the D2 and got out, only to hear a nasty hissing noise from the SLS. The rear suspension then proceeded to empty itself in about 10 secs and dump the car on the bumpstops.

I've only just recently replaced both airsprings, so I was pretty certain they weren't leaking or the problem. I started the car back up to see if it would pump up again, but all I got was the SLS warning light illuminated and no compressor noise. I did the owners reset with the key and door, but the light still remains on, and the compressor does not run.

    So my questions are:

    1. Is the compressor likely to be the fault.? (it probably had to work quite hard when my airspring had a leak)

    2. If not the compressor, what else could it be, and how can I check.? (I'm guessing I'll need to find someone with a testbook for any further diagnosis.)

    3. If it is the compressor, where have people sourced these from at a resonable price.? I'm not happy to pay $1500 to LR.

Please save your comments about replacing the system with coils for someone else, as I'm happy to keep the SLS and the flexability it provides. I'm sure once I've replacing everything it will be great.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

    Cheers
    Paul

Where abouts in Brisbane are you I am now in ascot and have a rova com lite could come around if you are not to far away, for both sides to go down together would require the operation of 3 soleniods, just check that the height sensor linkages are ok and none of the air lines have come out from the top of the air bags.

    Thanks Stevo.

I'm on the southside in Roachdale South.

I've got the compressor box apart at the moment, so while I'm under the car I'll check out those sensor linkages, and the airlines at the airsprings.

Everything in the box looks good......all the electrical connections look good, and the airlines appear to be sealed and not leaking.

    Cheers

Big thanks to Stevo for bringing his rovacom round to help me sort out my SLS issues.

A couple of hours and a couple of beers later....this was the assessment:

Looks like my compressor wasn't the issue, but it is on it's way out I think.
Seems to be a problem with the height sensors.....the RH one is reading incorrectly. The sensor seems fine though, as we swapped out a good one to see if that was the problem.

So now looks like a SLABS computer issue, or the wiring. Time to check the voltages at the computer end of the loom.

Thanks once again Steve...great to meet another LR enthusiast. Good to be able to check out your D2 setup as well.

when I plug the computer in and cleared the faults and leveled the disco up the readings were around 152 LH and the RH was sitting around 45 when you start the car up it will raise it self right up because it thinks the right hand side is low, and weruled out the sensor because we took mine off my car and it did the same thing with the same readings.

I know my suspension heights are 147 lh and 149 rh and others I have checked have been around this figure some more and some less but never a big difference between lh and rh.

so maybe there is resistance some where in the wiring did not have my manauls in the car so we did not get to check this out.

Well after much messing around and re-calibrating the sensors, we got the SLS running again. All looked good until this morning, when the original issue happened again.

SLS warning light on.....all the air dumped from the system.....vehicle on the bumpstops with no way of raising the suspension.

Maybe all the naysayers are right.....maybe the SLS just isn't worth the hassle. Could be time to look at a set of coils.....or maybe I'll just get rid of the D2 altogether. I really can't be bothered with the uncertainty of when one of the many systems will go wrong, and leave me with an undrivable car.

Might be time to change to a Jap brand......maybe they aren't as capable of road, or don't have all the fancy gadgetry of the Disco......but at least they will start and run everyday. I've never had so many problems with any vehicle since I've owned LR's.

I picked up an OEM compressor today from KCraft - silverwater for under $700, hope this helps.

so the compressor cant or wont raise the car this time?

it seems to be when the original bags fail, they nearly always take the compressor with them.
