    Engine/Trans options with Series Transfer

Right guys I know I have swithered on lots of options but here is my dilema....

Still no idea what gearbox is in my SWB until I can get it out and taken to a Trans man and identified. I have almost sorted a deal with 110 axles front and rear for my Series 3, going to try and convert to coil springs also.

Now, I want a V8, but LT95 is too big due to rear prop length. I am told the Series transfer is rock solid, and I also like the idea of keeping 2/4wd, although there is no way to lock the diff I believe sooooooo...... What engine and trans can I fit to that???

I could just throw a 4.1 Ford 6 back in there and be done but I know NOTHING about them at all and I really want a V8 in it.

Ages ago I had a Datsun3.0 litre diesel with 5 speed nissan box to Series Transfer. This all fitted behind the factory facia. I sold it to Dickyjoe (I think) though I'm not sure what he did with it in the end. Super low 1st gear, but I was under the impression that this was a strong box....I don't know what motor option will go with it though.

Slunnie mate your a legend, you obviously not getting bored with my constant questions yet hahaha.

Maybe just need to drag the box/transfer out and have a look at a million boxes to work out what will work.

I have 2 turbos and an intercooler sitting in the shed too, so I hope all these ideas stop at some point

No mate, I love it. Its all good. I really like it when people are doing something different and interesting to the mainstream. I don't know enough about the history of Series Landys to know what's gone before though. People like Lotzalandies and JDNSW hopefully will know more about whats been mated up. I have seen on ebay a Rover V8 mated to a Series driveline though, but that setup is apparently quite fragile.

Actually a fella called Turoa from NZ, he's the coolest 15/16 year old. He's done a heap of conversions and modifications to series stuff. He's done coil conversions, Coil overs, he made a hybrid Landcruiser/Hilux diff to suit, Patrol axle conversions into a Disco, buggies, and he's currently working on a 1UZ auto into a S2 shorty I believe. The 1UZ is a Toyota multivalve 4.0 V8 (191kw/353Nm) and is apparently a really good motor. He is backing this with a bundy auto and transfer, the transfer being offset the same as Rovers. You'll find him on www.Outerlimits4x4.com generally.

Hilux manuals will suit the 1UZ also with some mods.

I shall go seek, yes I had looked at 1UZ as they are so cheap, a fair amount of electrics that I didn't want though, but I know a guy that has done LOADS of 1UZ conversions so would be handy. I am sure someone on an earlier thread said Hilux boxes aren't the strongest.

How would the ratios be with 110 axles?

It depends on how you want to drive it. Lots of people use them, but if you want to beat them around heaps they'll break. With Rover axles..... I'm not sure but it may not be an issue. With 3.54 diffs it'll be geared high. With 4.7 diffs it'll probably be geared low. I would have thought that something around 4.1-4.3 would be close, but I would check that out as I'm not sure and it will depend on a few other things.

If I am honest it will be used off road but probably not ABUSED, a bit of river bed work and the likes but nothing major. I will also use it on the road for bombing about when I don;t want to use the Rangey. So 3.54 diffs would probably suit, and I doubt I will beak a Hilux box, and if I do, theres about 3 million around hahaha

What Hilux box am I looking for though..... Toyotas are a black art to me.
