Wiring Configuration RRC
I would appreciate some advice on the way I should wire up my 93RR.
I have a second battery under the bonnet connected up with a voltage sensitive relay so the alternator charges both but doesn't discharge from main battery when stopped (as per standard). I have a Jayco camper currently with one 90A gel battery but will eventually have two in parallel. I also have an electric brake controller wired to the main battery in the car and two cigarette outlets at the rear of the RR wired to the second battery which powers two fridges (engel and evakool) in the rear of the car.
My question is should I run power to the van through the 12 pin flat plug from the main battery or from the second battery? I also use a 150W inverter to power the notebook to keep the little darlings entertained whilst driving connected to the standard ciggy socket in the console.

Second battery.
You would defeat the idea of a voltage sensitive relay if you took the feed from the first battery as the idea is to charge the starting battery first.
BUT you should not try to charge camper batteries through a trailer plug and thin wire . You should use an Anderson plug and heavy gauge wire ( say4G) to ensure minimum voltage drop under high current load. Remember you will also need a heavy earth return also.

That is interesting your comment about the earth. I just wired up the Paj with an Anderson plug to charge the battery in the new caravan we bought.
When I added an Anderson plug on the last 4Wd I ran an active and earth all the way from the front (2nd battery) to the rear plug. I spke to my local auto elec before doingthis one and he told me there was no need to run a seperate earth, I could just attah an earth to the chassis at the back. The main thing was to make sure I drill and tap the hole for the earth bolt.
I ran 6mm to the back (50A) and there does not seem to be any votage drop at all. Maybe the Paj has better erthing than the Rovers.

Maybe I should add "From the camper batteries to the Anderson plug and chassis" although some argue that the earth should go to the battery.
My Anderson rear plug has the earth to chassis and the winch seems to work OK on the rare times I have used it.
The point was that it is no good having a mighty pipe in, if the out pipe is the puny camper earth through the trailer plug.
