Thread: Winch controls inside a Disco II

The simplest and best - but not the cheapest - way is to buy one of the Warn wireless remotes. Great bit of kit and then you can use it anywhere inside or outside the truck within about 30m.

Otherwise its not a big issue to wire back to something inside, just make sure you use suitable sized wiring and if it was me I'd also colour code the wires accordingly with the winch.

I paid just under $200 for mine through my ARB agent. Like I said, not the cheapest solution, but they are really neat.

Oooh...me thinks that might go on the christmas list for next year!! Do you wire it in or is there some sort of receiver that you plug into the...uh..plug?

No it just plugs in to the control socket. Comes with about 2m of cable to the receiver which can then be mounted somewhere in the engine bay and a remote with a little caddy that can be fixed to the dashboard (I keep mine in the cubby box)

I think that's dissapointing for what you pay for a warn winch and they don't come with it. All the cheap ones that I know of come with cord and wireless option.

The low cost option is to just stick another winch control socket in the car... It's very easy as it's all low current. All you do is simply extend the cables from behind the controller socket to wherever you want the second one. I've got that on my 110 so I've got a socket on the wing top as well as the dash.

Another nice one that I've seen is to wire it to the electric window switch... (On a Disco without electric windows) The window switch was used to give the in & out and the rear window inhibit switch was used as an isolator.

dont forget to add an isolator switch..... ive heard of cases where someones sinch controller triggered someone elses winch.......
