    Ace,
The tank is no different from the V8i tank, you only really need the V8 fuel pump assembly which drops straight in, the sender unit is even the same etc. The V8 pump unit has it's own built in 'swirl pot' and it has the same specs as the 5 litre Holden engine anyway. (We use the VN V6/V8 aftermarket pumps to replace the D1 and RRC pumps anyway)
All the line fittings and plugs are the same, and the fuel return is more than adequate. You will however have to run the fuel pump power and earth wires but this isn't a big drama. Perfect

    Questions;

    1) If they dont make the plate to fit to a diesel bell housing can i just bolt a rover V8 one to my gearbox to get around it or does that affect the clutch set up and all.

    2) According to their site i can use a holden clutch and pressure plate with the holden flywheel as the spline is the same. But will the holden clutch be up to the task?

    3) According to the Marks Adaptors site you need a few different things to get around the security measures fitted to the motor and the car when it was in the holden, have a look at the link i posted earlier and read what they say, this is the stuff that confuses me, the parts they are selling seem expensive and i dont understand enough about electronics to be able to know if i need it or if they are telling me i do.

    4) The mention stuff about the engine requiring a small surge tank to draw from to avoid fuel starvation issues when going up steep hills etc, is this necessary.

    5) I take it my diesel fuel tank will need to go, what will i put in in its place. Could i look at a LRA long range tank or something instead?
    1) Dunno

2)Holden stuff will be more than ample, keep in mind, you'll be buying new and can just buy a heavy duty clutch

    3) Security stuff is easily overcome and the Delco wiring loom is very basic, you can buy a prefabbed loom or do it yourself, either isn;t all that hard, but the ability to read basic schematics is required, you will need a speed sender

    4) EFI pump set up, or fit a Facet solid state pump, surge tank and High pressure pump, all external to the tank, about $300 with all good quality gear

    5) retain your existing tank, useing either of the above methods

If done correctly, conversions are excellent and well worthwhile, but don't expect to be without some teething issues, especially if its your first

Matt, send Xavie a PM. He's thinking/planning on stripping his perfectly good Tdi Disco in the next week or so .
I'm sure it would be the quickest & cheapest option for you if you can get his donk.

Thanks Scouse, already been talking to him.

I am going to ring bruce davis and see what he reckons. If i get an exchange motor (gotta find out the price and then compare it to what Xavie will sell his for) and the price difference is worth the the extra to have a pretty much new motor then i might look at that. I am going to have to extend one of my personal loans to do it all anyway. If i do it then its good for another 300000-400000km.

Does anyone know if bruce davis has closed for an extended xmas break? Matt

Well the head is off and the head gasket was the cause of the failure. The number 2 cylinder was full of coolant. The bore is pretty badly damaged aswell and the material from the head is fused to the top of the bore, which is badly scored. So out she comes. I will give Bruce a ring tomorrow and discuss options.

Dont throw the motor out yet. Sometimes it may still be salvagable.

I've melted millions of pistons to bores and they just clean out with hydrochloric acid etc. Sometimes scoring is inconsequential also depending on where, how and depth.
    Cheers

Im not going to throw it out, im thinking of getting xavies motor to get it going and then slowly doing mine back up with some performance mods.

But the scoring is pretty deep, they are pretty nasty scratches and they go down about 20-30mm from the top of the bore. matt
