Defender Extreme 110 1999-Clutch issues
About six weeks ago I noticed some strange noises happening underneath the accelerator/brake/clutch pedal area, couldnt quite pin down what was happening. It seemed to get worse the longer the trip. Also noticed that the engine, when idling, was vibrating quite badly. It did not seem to deteriorate that much over the last few weeks, except when I depressed the clutch there were definite vibrations and whirring noises though the clutch pedal. Driving to work one day I went to change gears and the clutch pedal could not be depressed any further than halfway in, meaning I could not change gears at all. It is like to pedal has a large rock behind it, it just will not go any further than halfway in. Took in to mechanics and they said I need a new clutch kit, which they told me would be $1600 plus around two days labour ($1300) to put in. Have just bought a new kit myself of ebay from reputable sydney 4wd shop for $390. Does anyone know what sort of time frame it takes to put a new clutch in my Defender? Also, can anyone tell me if it would be just coincedence that my engine is vibrating quite badly when idling at the same time my clutch has gone?
Any advice on this lengthy question would be a huge benefit to me.

on my 130 we had the box out and in, new clutch installed in a day..

Maybe your clutch slave pushrod has punched through the pivot.

Definite possibilty with a Tdi, but a Td5 uses the same fork as the V8, a nice thick cast iron one.
My money is with the dual mass flywheel disintegrating

When I did that the rocky problem was the pivot coming off its mounting pin.
