I really dont know the answer, but I would bet that it'd work. The planetary gears may have to go over also. It'd be intereting to try it while its out.
It looks like I've lost another 10spline diff in my '87 RR on the weekend.
I should have another spare diff which I can use (just need to dig it out)but I have several 24spline diffs from late D1s.
I would like to convert my diffs to 24spline jobbies but I don't have the axles & hubs yet. In the meantime I would like to convert one to a 10spline as a back up diff.
Is it possible to change over the side gears in the later diffs to fit the early 10spline type?
Or am I just making life hard for myself?
Over to the diff gurus........

Just swap the crown wheel over on the carrier, depends on bearing sizes, they vary to![]()
Hi Scouse, i remember when i did my diff up mt airlie that weekend and lokka helped me rebuild it we stuffed around trying to put a 24 spline hemishpere from CAL415's disco after he fitted the locker into a spare rangie classic carrier and the bearings were different so we couldnt do it. Not sure if the gears can be swapped over though.
I would just whack the make do with the 10 spline spare you have and when you get the axles and stuff just swap over the whole carrier. Matt

Or you could just get a locker![]()

I'm tempted by the strength alone of a locker diff being 4 pin.
I'm not keen on having a locker though - I know it makes life easier but that takes all the fun out of it.

I always think that fitting lockers starts to make you think you can go anywhere....hence getting yourself in to more tricker situations were your likely to break stuff. situations which you wouldn't normally find yourself with a reasonably standard car
needless to say I would like one in the rear eventually![]()
