    Transmission clunk?

I have a MY03 Discovery TD5 Auto, with 110,000 km on it. Just recently, an audible "clunk" is heard from gearbox/transfer case area when re-accelarating.
Could it be backlash in transfer case?
Is it the uiversal joints/splined yoke assy?

This noise has just happened in past 48hrs (29/12/08).
Local LR agent is currently closed until New Year.

    Any help appreciated

This happened to me a few months ago at 110,000 ks as well. I surely found out whilst rock climbing that it was the rear diff spider gears. They had been slowly crapping themselves and then finally let go. I'd have it looked at by a diff or drivetrain specialist, not a General Practice Mechanic.

Check the joints in the front propshaft before driving any more. The DC joint is well known for flogging out then causing bigger problems if it lets go.

Yes, the DC joint front prop to the auto--- advice given to me early was replace immediately with HD defender one and has nipples! -- dont forget the rubber thingy at the rear prop to diff pinion, they wear out but I dont know the symptoms. I have the same Ks as you so watching with interest.
