Okay you caught me out ;) I was just going to be a bit naughty and buy 4 because I've never used a spare tyre on any car I've ever driven. I suppose I should buy a spare and not push my luck. :D
I remember my dad getting stuck without a spare coming back from the royal show on Great Eastern Hwy at 2am with the horse on board lucky the old Kingswood fit the horse float spare.
Those Mega tyres on the back and the spare Pirelli were on there since we bought the discovery maybe 9 years the Uniroyal are 7 at least. The ones on my hilux are even worse then the ones you've seen.
If I said to them $800 would that be too low? I wonder if they will give me a better deal if I buy 5 for the hilux too? They are 31x10.5R15 $850 to $900 for those seem right?
Okay been to a few places :wheelchair: and here are the prices
Ian Diffen:
Sumitomo tyres 5 X 235/75R15 $1000 5X 31X10.5R15 $1050
Kmart:
Bridgestone 108S 5 X 235/75R15 $845 or Bridgestone 694 5 X 235/75R15 $1110 Goodyear Wrangler 5X 31X10.5R15 $1415
Bob Jane: Maxxis 5 X 235/75R15 $875 Pirelli 5 X 235/75R15 $1230
Maxxis 5X 31X10.5R15 $945 Pirelli 5X 31X10.5R15 $1400
Tyre Plus: He only wrote TRI? 5 X 235/75R15 $775 TRI AT? 5X 31X10.5R15 $900
I still have to check with Tyre Power anywhere else I should check the prices?
Are any of these LT (Light Truck) tyres?
No they are all 4wd tyres.
Light truck tires should be a lot cheaper I don't know the size off hand other than R15LT but the horse float has bob jane allrounder light truck tyres and I only paid $600 for 5 including new rims. So far they have been fine done maybe 2K on them no problems but it spends a lot of time in the shed. Had the same tyre on the back wheels of my old datsun out lasted the BF goodrich which wore down very quickly . But they where I think a dud pair I got normally BFG is very good.
Tyre power should be able to do the maxxis cheaper . I got 32x11.5x15 for $220 each fitted .
Edit: reread it it's for 5 tyres not 4 Ooops :p
try it on for $800 for each vehicle if you take both in at once. You should get a better deal if buying bulk tyres and usually better again if all are exactly the same type of tyre. money can also be saved by taking your dead carcasses with you..(you ride horses dont they make jumps and stuff out of them?)
Tyres age, 5 years is the nominal limit for most tyres but they survive well beyond this which is why you should be changing your spare. I dont want to be there the day that, after having replaced a flat on the passangers side rear with a (possabley as old as the vehicle) spare that the rubbers gone hard on you start braking into a right hand off camber turn with a full load of horses on the float when theres been a touch or rain.
the bridgestones look like they will be the part for what you want to do with the vehicle being what I'd call a 70/30 on/off road profile.
If you want to save some more money you could (as suggested) look into the LT profiles.
Just got a price from TyrePower today:
Kumhos 235/75R15 extra load tyres $800 for 5
Kumhos 31x10.5 R15 $825 for 5
Plus he will give me free wheel alignment on the landrover and do the hilux for $25
I will go and check if I can get anything better but that seem pretty good don't you think?
