HID Xenon ballasts.
Are the ballasts the same for both the low beam only and the high / low beam kits ?. I've got a single beam kit which I'm yet to fit and would like to use it in the headlamps of my D2 but only if I can substitute the single beam globes for dual beam ones.
Thanks,
Anthony.

The Chinese kits I've used (2x Bixenon H4, 2x single globe) share the same ballasts (apart from two being 55w & two 35w).

Thanks for that Scott. With apologies for dragging this out, my ballasts only get power from the low beam circuit. i.e. there is only one power and one earth going into and out of the ballast. Where does the ballast get it's power from when high beam is activated as the low beam circuit is no longer live and does the high beam wire go directly to the globe to activate the shield or whatever it does ?. The only pictures of dual beam ballasts I've seen have seen seem to have only two wires going in and out also.
Thanks,
Anthony.

Problem sorted, I think. I googled it and found a pretty patchy picture of a dual beam harness and from what I can work out they use relays to keep the hi / lo circuits separated.

The Chinese bi-xenon H4 kits come with a 'black box' which does the changeover & operates both headlights from one headlight socket.
However, that was not going to be any good for my P38 as it would have activated the bulb warning on the LH headlight.
So, I removed the 'black box' & wired the ballasts directly to each headlight socket. I had to use a diode to prevent feedback to the low beam circuit when high beam was used though but that's all.
Therefore, I have a 'black box' (with cut wires) that you're welcome to have if you prefer to go that way. None of the wires are HT so it's just a matter of hooking it up.
