Seen this before after a hard bump on the nose like what you did as for running the rear main bearing out of oil it could be a posability tho ya bearings must have been near shot as ya wasent on that bad of an angle ive had mine in worse spots and no big end probs and my big ends have seen roughly 500K heres a good angle i parked on for about half an hr and then got snatched backwards nobig end dramas :cool::cool:
5 speed LT77 box.
I don't know how many kms it has done, the odometer doesn't work. It shows 201 000km, but the fella I bought it off 4 years ago couldn't remember when it had last worked. I estimate 300 - 350 000km, but it might be more.
The odos lock up on the change over to a multiple of 1000 (usually a multiple of 10,000 or higher) owing to the grease solidifying in the odo. A relatively easy fix for someone willing to dismantle the speedo. I did mine on my '86 Rangie.Quote:

I have a hoist and engine crane here in Gympie you can use if thats any good to you.
Pulled the sump off today, here are the main bearings.
As you can see, there is no bearing surface left! Copper backing showing all the way around the shells :eek:.
New bearings arive tomorrow (fingers crossed) and I can put it back together. Doing the big ends as well.
Hopefullly this will cure the noise. There was about a millimetre of crank end float, which should be reduced with the new bearings.

The crank looks prettty good, but I haven't removed all the big end bearings yet. Fingers crossed that they look as good as the mains.

a friend of the inlaws has kindly let me use his shed. Thanks for the offer though.
If the bearings don't cure it, the timing cover and intake manifold will be coming off. New timing chain / gears and cam / lifters.
In the above pics some of the bearings look to have the bearing surface still. I think it is actually the metal behind the copper :eek:.
Maybe my estimate of 300 - 350 000 kms was being a bit optimistic :cool:.
