Yep, I think they were just about due!
I had to drop the crank of the Chev in mine to change the rear seal when I had the car all apart. Had to take the main caps right off to get the new 2 pc seal in.
Shells weren't perfect but has good pressure. No copper showing like yours. (ha ha that cracks me up!) Did you have a pressure gauge that didn't work?
cheers, DL
No guage, just an idiot light... that doesn't always work.
I think the wear is mostly mileage related as the crank still looks good.
Looks to be well worn there john mate ilbe pulling my engin out in the next few weeks and fitting the healthy one i have when i pull it down id say my bearings will look similar or worse as my bottom end has a fair amount of float but she still gets reasonable oil pressure :D:D
Looks as though it has just been run in:D
Good argument for an oil pressure gauge:cool:
When does a 2nd engine become a better option?
When I get a free one :D:D.
I was supposed to get a call back from one place today regarding engines, but he never rang back. I guess they don't want my business :(.
As long as the crank is still OK at all the big ends, if the noise isn't gone when I put it back together I will investigate the timing chain.
John on ya way back south if ya get this far and it carks i have a good short 3.5 ya can have cheap its only block heads and all internals no manifolds or timing cover but it was a real good runner with recoed heads :D:D:D
Cheers Mate.
Hopefully we won't need it, but I will keep you in mind.
I've got one as well that you can have for free. I have heads for it, too but they'd need servicing.
For comparison purposes a new bearing next to an old one.
