Sounds like the striker plate has moved in slightly.

So my problem is that the defender doors wont close properly unless you lock them and slam!! If you just close them normally they latch, but not fully and do not seal (you can see through the gap).
Anyone had this problem?? (2001 TD5 for reference).
cheers
Jim

Yep like john said sounds like the striker plates need adjustment fairly simple realy![]()
Slam it harder.
Actually in my case the floor had moved slightly out during a rebuild - but that was in a Series Landy.... same thing really.![]()

I have had similar problem especially during colder weather. I tried adjusting striker plates but that was not successful. As it seemed to be dependant on temperature (I live at 3500 ft asl) I figured that it was something to do with the grease in the lock solidfying. My solution, and it may not be recommended in the manual, was to spray the lock with WD40. This seems to have done the trick and I don't have doors that appear to be firmly shut flying open whilst driving down the highway.

Bent Defender chassis!
You put a Defender up on a hi-lift jack and you can't open/close the doors properly, this never happened with the series LR. It's all in the bl**dy thin materials they use in LR these days.
But in this case it's probably the striker plates as JD suggested.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
We were in at Trivett in Paramatta for an LROC-S last year and the pre-delivery Defender on display you could see daylight through the bottom of the LHS rear door.
If that is how a new vehicle is, what hope is there for any older vehicle. You can't blame LR however they have only had that basic body design since 1958. Not quite long enough to sort out the same problem they had in 1957.
