In the D2 the TD5 CC is done by the ecm, whereas the V8 uses an external ecu which I assume is the Hella unit that you mention.

5th gear isn't the best in an R380, I'm on my 3rd rebuild. Or is it 4th.

As to the CC,the TD5 does have a speed inout in the ECU, I don't know why. I would have thought revs, intake temp, fuel temp, water temp, throttle position etc would be enough.

It seems to see the progammers of the TD5 won't let us labour the car in high throttle / low rev-speed situations.

i find it is not working that hard based on the EGT in 5th overdrive and always used to tow in 5th befor the overdrive but now tend to tow in 4th overdrive. only problem with the gbox in 150000km was early in its life when a bearing failed under waranty with no problems or noises since. i think i will give up on the CC and overdrive working together. may well sell the overdrive as it realy is not well utilised on tas roads

My TD5 D2 will happily pull away in 5th from 40kph.

I've tested that I can get mobile without the throttle working by going up the gears to 4th on idle then waiting for a very slight downhill to select 5th to get to 40 then set CC and increase the speed.

no noise, just a bit less noise from the motor due to lower revs. i cant hear it at all. the only way i know its engaged is the lower revs.
