    Caltex MTF94

I received a call from Caltex dpto in Bundaberg regarding my order for Caltex MTF92.
Caltex not longer have available this oil due to luck of demand
    Penrite syntetic 75 is available @ Repco for $ 55.00 per 2 1/2 lts.
Nulon 75-80 is another alternative together with the equivalent from Castrol both at $ 30.00 per lt @ supercheap today.
    Cheers

Penrite 'SIN Manual Trans' meets MTF94 spec, NOT 'SIN Gear 75' which is a 75W-90 trans/LSD fluid. (they claim it can be used in gearboxes requiring a 75W-90 fluid)
    Castrol Syntrans
    Redline MTL
    etc, etc.

Have you had a look at Castrol Syntrax it is now what is recommended in the Puma's transfer box. Strangely enough the Diff's are still EPX 80/90, but Syntranx would meet/exceed spec. Its a high temp synthetic. Cost me $21/L but I find my oil prices are usually on the cheap side (somethings got to be, because diesel only just dropped to $1.699/L)

That is very cheap. I bought Syntrax at the same time as the Syntrans for the same price.

This oil all seems expensive to me, where are you putting it when you can get it? and in what vehicle.

I recently changed the gearbox oil in my Defender 200tdi and i'm sure it is noisier now. The box is fine though and always has been. I used castrol TQF

you know how it is, when you cure one sound it will make you aware of another one, a sort of murphys law I guess.

That oil is not the recommended oil for your gearbox, maybe that is why it is noisy.

It's interesting you say that big john, I have the hand book in front of me and of the 5 makes of oil it recomends Castrol TQF is one, that is for an LT77 5 speed.

I say its interesting, because although it is recomended in the handbook I still have an uneasy feeling about it. The Haynes manual quotes ATF, and Duckams uni-matic specifically. Haynes does say to M2C33 which I guess is a viscosity measure. I havnt looked to see if Castrol TQF meets that though.

I would be interested to know what others use in that gearbox!

    thanks for the reply bigjohn.
