    Rotating wheels/tyres

When rotating the wheels, do you include the spare (manual vehicles only here), my understanding is that manuals should incorperate the spare in the rotation and autos should not.

    Any thoughts on this.

Bob Jane won't do mine, also they argued that the nuts for the spare were no different to the wheel nuts on a D2

I have two spares and incorporate both when I rotate my tyres.

Rear to front, front to spare and spares to rear and I swap sides also. This may or may not be correct but it seems to offer good even wear for me. If you want a tyre guy to look after you, go to tyrengadine on the hwy next to maccas. Tell john I sent ya. He'll look after you. He's a top bloke, he'd more likely remember me from my blue patrol with a vibration issue as opposed to my white defender.

    Cheers

Maybe someone can educate me here as I have never heard of this

I have auto and I always rotate the spare in at every 10,000 k's service.

By adding another tyre in it stretches the replacement timeframe and ensures you don't have a tyre with decent tread going 'off' hanging on the back.

It will be interesting to see what the others feel.

Agreed - I bought my MTs from there. he delivered my other tyres and rims back to my place later, and also offered to rotate for free every 5000 Km. Price was also excellent.

cant really help on the manual/auto but i would think that they would both benefit from rotation

being anal i played with some figures to see whether it was better to buy 4 tyres (keep the spare new or just have a crappy one) and concluded that with a 5 tyre rotation you actually get more km for your money. and besides the spare slowly perishes out in the weather I don't think it really matters what "pattern" you chose to follow as long as every tyre gets the same amount of time in the every position

Kerry's power of persuasion won over in the end

I am a firm believer in using the spare in the rotation process, amazing what these so called tyre experts don't know
