They are the same. In fact with addition of a potentiameter to adjust voltage (that is built in to the 5AM but not later MAF's) you can replace your 5AM with later GEMS & Bosch MAF's from P38's and D2's
Just wanting to know if it is possible to swap the AFM from a 3.5 V8 to a 3.9 V8.They are both 5AM types but are they different in anyway? I have one from a 3.5 and would like to know if i should keep it as a spare for my 3.9.But if they are different i will sell it.I put it on to test it and it seems to drive fine but just want to make sure it wont lean out or something like that.Any info would be great. Thanks
Chris

You can, but its pointless unless you are doing a reasonably modded engine or using a full GEMS system. The performance benefits of it are nil when it comes to a std-mid powered donk. The 5AM isnt restrictive until you start looking at about 300+ neddies, then the GEMS makes it breath easier.
Cheers
Andrew.
The point of suggesting a different MAF was not for performance but cost savings and availabilty of a younger but used unit for a swap out. Having said that a larger MAF may cause it operate too low down the standard 3.9 ECU fuel map and cause underfueling .....so best stick with a 5AM.
