I think the box in them is computer controled, if it got wet that could cause it. unplug the harness and dry the computer and harness with a hair dryer and spay with electrical contact cleaner, better to try that then drive 1500k, hope it works mate
Hello all,
I need some advice, earlier today I had to be snatched from a creek, water came up to the door indent and came into the cabin wetting everything...
After getting out onto the bank the car seemed to be ok. After a couple of hundred meters when changing out of low first the car seemed a little sluggish.
It turned out that the gear selector no longer functions, neither does the cruise control or the kick-down.
We live in the Pilbara and the nearest dealer is in Perth (1500km away...)
Any ideas would be appreciated.

I think it may have entered what is affectionately known as 'limp home' mode, which is does when it thinks it has a problem and will try to minimise damage etc.
Can't help with how to rectify it! Good luck though, I hope you can get it fixed up somehow![]()
You could try drying everything that got wet. Remove the ECU's and put them somewhere warm overnight. There is a good chance that they will be ok once dry.
Thanks for the replies so far, I have removed the EAT ECU and will try and dry it out tonight.
Has anyone worked out a better place to mount this ECU or how to water proof it if we go for another unplanned swim?

I have a series 1, and i had 2nd and reverse, the bearing had colapsed and wouldn't allow the tranny to change grear but when i drove home in what i was told was "limp home mode" i managed to machine my transmision away with the debree from the colapsed bearing... get it checked profesionally.
Any auto trany joint shouild be able to help you out.
then again, thats my case and mine was caused from overheating and water not being bogged. plus mine is alot less computer controeld than yours, i'd asume.
Also check the harness on the left side of the trnasmission. I'd get hold of some electrical contact cleaner to spray everything with.
Were the M+S lights flashing as this is the usual indication of limp home mode?

stinky disco you can't have a limp home mode in your auto it is not computer controled, the vehicles ECM dosen't control the box in series 1 disco.
i was illl advised.....
ended up costing me 4k...
now im not so trusting of mechanics...
just because he has an ecu doesnt it mean that what happened to me cant happen to him yes?
in all honesty im not overly sure about the inner workings of any car, but just letting him know what happened to me and the damage that can happen if it isnt an ecu issue.
First thing to do is check the oil.
If it smels burnt or is very dark then you are in trouble.
Drain it into a clean container if you have to and then if it is ok you can put it back in or replace. If you keep driving on a cooked box you will kill it.
