    Spraying D1 steel wheels

Does anybody know the original colour silver of the D1 steel wheels?

Can you get it in Spray cans.

I have a set on my Defender and they are looking a bit shabby and want to clean them up spray them.

    thanks

Good question, I've been wondering the same thing myself just this week.

I'd get them powdercoated if I was you.

(Well actually if I was me - that's what I did and it was good).
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

Standard silverfrost in a pressure can is identical...not as good as powdercoating but a lot cheaper and easier to touch up.

According to EPC, there's 2 silvers for the Disco wheels.

    Quicksilver & Silversparkle.

I am thinking that Silversparkle is an alloy wheel finish though because there's no colour code listed.

Quicksilver is listed as being 468 Dulux. Hopefully a paint shop will recognise that number.

I was looking for a fifth alloy a while ago, and thought silver was silver until I compared mine with other ones and found out that the Silversparkle of mine was way more sparkly than the Quicksilver. So I think both are alloy colours as well, and almost identical except for the level of sparkle.

You can actually buy a pressure pack in "Wheel Silver"
Not sure of the brand, I may have a can in the workshop if you need to know.

If you have an area of paint on the wheel in good condition, you can always take it to a panel shop and have it colour matched. Some years ago, it was possible to purchase pressurised disposable glass paint bottles, where you added your paint and it sprayed like a spray can.

    Thanks for the info.

I don't want to go to the effect and expense of pulling them apart to powder coat them.
I just want to freshen them up, just like I do with the Bullbar and other matt black bits every couple of years. Makes it look new again.
