    Question D2 leaking windscreen

    Help!
After 4th visit to windscreen replacement people, they still can't tell me why I'm getting damp corners on the headlining (top of windscreen pillars), and are geting [annoyed] with the D2. The rubber strip along the top of the windscreen is a bit bent and they probably should have used a new one, but they assure me it's cosmetic anyway. Is it just pinholes through the sealant or something else? (they pulled down the headlining and hosed it, nothing else like sports bars are leaking).
It occured when they replaced the windscreen, although the drivers side had a tiny leak before that. I've heard of the fault before but wonder why it is so common? Doesn't seem to happen on other cars.
    Cheers,
    Dave

I had a similar problem develop with my D2, I suspect it isn't fitted with the original windscreen. Apparently some of the replacements are not quite the same shape as the original.

It sometimes leaked when driving, I noticed it didn't leak if it was parked facing up-hill. Eventually I figured out it was probably getting in at the top corner on driver's side and occasionally running along behind the headlining as water sometimes emerged above the mirror - depended upon the cross-slope angle the car was parked on.

The rubber strip across the top is certainly "cosmetic", it does not seal the windscreen. The solution was to clean behind the strip and at each corner with metho and apply about a 5mm bead of windscreen sealant in the gap at the top of the glass (behind the rubber) along its full length paying particular attention to filling up the gap at the corners behind the rubber.

    Hasn't leaked since.

I had my windscreen replaced on Tuesday and the repairer not only replaced the screen but all the moulds and whatever else is associated with the screen. They also held onto the car for the day to ensure the car wasn't used so the sealant etc dried properly.

Prior to the replacement, the screen leaked from the top offside corner. With the replacement, the rubber seals the corner and there appears to be a corner bit which wasn't there before. The job was worth $600+ as genuine components were used. Fortunately for me the screen was replaced through my insurance. I guess this is why the repairer took no chances of it coming back for leaks...

So I would take it back to them to fix.

    Cheers

When I had my D2 the dealer had the windscreen replaced. They stuffed up the fitting and left a hole in the bottom. Told them to replace and fix properly, instaed they made a dogs breakfast of stickking sealant in the hole which could be seen from the drivers seat. They did replace it after that.

    Could be quality of workmanship.

Wet patches where you guys are describing are usually caused by the sun-roofs. There's drainage channels on the front of the sun-roof which drain into a couple of tubes which run down the 'A' pillar (or 'C' pillar for the rear sun-roof). When these get blocked, the water just ends up flowing down the headlining instead.

However, if you don't have a sunroof, it's probably something else...

    Hi Camel Landy
No sunroofs in mine, mine was so badly installed it had wind noise in the 2 top corners.
After talking to a windscreen fitter from another company the trick is to put plenty of extra Sikaflex upfront before fitting the glass. The aftermarket screens used in Aussie are slightly different shape than original according to the fitter. And at 2 to 3 times dearer the insurance companies dont do original glass!!!!

Correct me if I misunderstand, but the rubber that surrounds the windscreen does not really hold the w/screen in place, its just cosmetic. Is this true for the Discovery 1s also as my w/screen also leaks fromthe rhs. Too scared at the moment to try to fix the leak as i dont want to crack th w/screen. Bob H
