If its a series box it is normal to have a fair bit of "tilt" in that gear.....Brian
I've just taken off the sump cover on the gear box to replace the gasket (none existed on the cover!!!). As the box was draining, i thought it good to just check out how things worked.
When I played with the Low Gear, it has heaps of play in it (5-7mm). Is this normal?
If not, is it something that a newb can fix in the car or would i need to take it out?
i wont be using low too much, but if this is part of the whine i am getting then I should probably address it?
Cheers,
Ronnie

Cheers Brian! Just the answer I was hoping for.............
Any idea as to what is the best tool to take out the drain plugs that just have the notch in them?
Wasnt an issue with the gearbox as i was removing the sump plate anyways. However, the rear diff isnt quite as user friendly.....The front diff had a plug suited to a standard wrench.
Cheers,
Ronnie
I made up a spanner to fit the slotted plugs. I ground a bit of flat steel to fit and then put a 90 degree angle in it and then welded it onto the side of the spanner that fitted the other plugs. That way you can use the spanner for leverage. Cheers......Brian
I concur with the freeplay on the low range gear and I use a spanner side on in the bungs with the slots.
