    Defender 2008

Hi I'm New we have just bought a new 2.4Litre lDefender and are experiencing a problem with heat coming through the floor . I have a temp. probe attached to the floor and on a 200km. trip under the seats at the rear of the seats and the floor are registering a temperature of 47 degrees Celcius . On trip from Sydney to Melbourne 11 + hours 900+ kms. It was even Hotter . The dealership are saying these temperatures are normal and so is the landrover care assistance people . Surely this is not nomal especially as the gear box/ transmission are so hot you cannot leave your hand on them. I have travelled re 12000 kms.
Can anyone help as it is extremely uncomfortable in the cabin?

i'm with you on this. Ive had 2 x defenders before with a TDi and a TD5 and have never noticed the heat problems with either of those. I have raised the same question on this forum a few months ago to be also told this is normal. The floor does get very hot and the only way to cool it down is to turn on the A/C. Any resolution in this issue would be great.

I've done 15k in mine now. Big trips to Broken Hill and around Tassie.

Never noticed anything that would have caused me a concern.

I opened the bonnet after a short trip to the Blue Mountains and was suprised by the heat from the engine compartment. There isn't much space there for air to move around.

At the same time there isn't much insulation in the Defender so any heat that builds up in the engine bay is reradiated back into the cabin.

The airconditioning works very well though.

I guess that the only solution is fit insulation mats.
In my old 109 V8 the floor was so hot that was good to keep the coffe nice and warm
My current Tdi300 is nice and warm as well and my solution is ignoring the "problem"

You would think cruising at highway speeds the temp would be low due to the cooling affect of high airflow.I would hate to think what the floor temps would get to after a few hours of slow low range work, say in soft sand, with high ambient temperatures as well.

Maybe insulating the floor with thick carpet or something similar would help.

    Good Luck

That's strange. I've never noticed any unusual heat coming through the floor.

Do you mean the rear of the front seats, or the rear of the rear seats? I will check next time I am out and about and see if mine gets that hot.

Haven't noticed this as badly in the new one, but it is a well known Defender characteristic. Going all the way back to when I had a series III, you could easily fry an egg on the passenger floor plate.

yup it gets really hot, feels like you will burn your leg on handbrake cover.

put on air con it solves the problem.

doubt there is much airflow in that area as its more of a pocket so just keeps getting hotter.

    GOOD HEATER

With the poor heaters the hot floor is nice with only scocks on,
in the cold new zealand days.
