like he said,
I always round the number up + 1 then halve it and buy the bottles that fit the number (rouded up)
In this case
5.8+.8= 6.6, rounded up gives 7
+1 = 8
/2 =4
so you uy 2 4l bottles (big red gets 2 6l bottles or 3 4l ones)
that way you have enough oil left over for topping up, doing the air cleaner (think series) or to take into account things like different sumps/filter sizes.
The other benifit is that you always have a little of the new oil left over from the last oil change in a container so you can take it with you to buy the next lot which means if you cant get the exact same oil you happen to have all the relevent specs on the oil on hand on the label on the back of the bottle so you can purchase an equivelent.
the new left over oil from the last service I tip into a drum of "random engine oil" and use it for anything from protective coating on metal works to lawnmower engine oil
