Its better to push it into gear while rolling slightly. That allows it to fully engauge - otherwise they jump out of gear.
Hi guy's, my transfer case has just started jumping out of low range, any ideas on cause before i start delving. Feels like the lever does'nt go forward enough. it's a D1 tdi lt230.
Cheers

Yeah, thats what mine did cause I thought was lack of use and I did try to engage whilst moving slowly, works a treat.
As above, and check that the linkage isn't loose or the grub screw on the selector rod in the top housing isn't working itself loose. But if that doesn't help, you are looking down the barrel of either a detent spring weak or broken,(Unlikely as High range would also pop out) or more commonly excess wear on the selector sleeve and low gear dogs. Not a difficult job in an LT230 but the case has to come out to do it.

I take it that the grub screw is external?, thanks for the tip.check that the linkage isn't loose or the grub screw on the selector rod in the top housing isn't working itself loose
Proberly more the case as the box has done nearly 360k but i was hoping it was somthing else.or more commonly excess wear on the selector sleeve and low gear dogs.
Unfortunately grub screw is internal, it is inside the selector housing on top of the Transfer case, where the lever for High/low goes in. Remove the housing(6 bolts) and turn it upside down, you will see the screw, it is an allen key, (5mm AFAIR)
At 360k old, I have seen many with perfect selector sleeves etc still, but it is all dependent on how harshly they have been treated. Last one I did had 200k, and it was trashed. Operator abuse, IE lots of clutch dropping and hard work in lowrange with very poor maintenance.

I have the Same Disco and have the same thing happen to me i will check all of these things out cheers![]()
Madge is very well loved and looked after, she gets a very good low range work out but is never abused. Original clutch was changed at 300k.but it is all dependent on how harshly they have been treated.
