Good sirs,
could i hypothesize that infact, all 10mm sockets are hexagonal? I do not remember spying a socket of this size that is not hexagonal.

Sir Hastykiwi
I have the good fortune to have handy, my trusted and well respected socket set, made by the now famous company that have been in service for a good many years.
The said set is made by Sidcrome, and on close inspection they have not provided the required shape of the required "Hexagonal", but is more rather of a "Star" shape.
fortunately, or unfortunately, I believe that I have been most presumptuous in anticipating that our learned friend, has currently found himself in the precarious position of rounded bolt heads, has been using a open ended spanner, which has resulted for the problem at hand.
Must go, as my Tea and scone is ready for serving
Sincerely yours
Mike
Good Sirs,
The offending implement was indeed a 3/8 socket manufactured by that august manufacturer of mechanical implements, namely Sidchrome of Orstraylya.
And it does appear to have rather more corners than that generally exhibited by a hexagon.
The accursed stud in question was convinced to emerge approximately halfway from its seating before stubbornly refusing any further inducement to turn.
Growing up on the farm, pater and brother always referred to me as 'passion fingers' as regards the mechanical arts...never really worked out why to be honest.
A colleague has recommended to me the Bolt-Grip range of products manufactured by the Irwin Company....anybody hereabouts familiar with this concept?
yours in anticipation
S
This is most brilliant news, my good chap. You have confirmed that the offending bolt has indeed, made progress, but has come to a abrupt halt whilst being relieved from it's fixture
My top most and appropriate remedy for the solution is the following,
Step 1 .... With the Hexagonal socket in place, Turn the offending bolt clockwise, then with most vigour, turn Anti clockwise
I must point out to your learn'ed self, that this said turning action may have to be performed over numerous times in a fashion of 1/4 turns.
The said action will have the amazing and unexplainable result of relieving the foreign matter that has unfortunately caused a binding of the threads.
I must insist that Liberal lubrication would most appropriate during the said action
This is the end of Step 1
I would like to take a moment of your your time, and indulge myself to give you the courtesy to apologise most profusely for a spelling mistake concerning the manufacturer of the recommended tooling company being namely, Sidchrome, as I believe that you have pointed out in the most devilish fashion of my inability to remember the H that should have been included
I have the utmost faith that the above mentioned step1, will be of assistance for you and entrust that the afflicted name that you have inherited, being the stated, 'passion fingers' will be finally put to rest
If your good self, require any further assistance, Please do not hesitate to write, as I would be more than happy to accommodate.
I see the Tea Lady is ready to serve, Must go. Tooda Loo
Yours Sincerely
Mike
Oh I say well played good sir, your directions afford me much hope that my current impasse can indeed be overcome, the modifications effected and the vehicle returned to operational duty.
This should return me to the affection and goodwill of the materfamilias who has recently had cause to question both my sense of timing and practical aptitude.
Sir Mike,
regarding your earlier correspondence, it appears that my earlier hypothesis was ill conceived and inadequately researched and for this i offer my most hearty apologies. While the aformentioned theorem was based on my own observations of similarly sized sockets and tooling, including the set in my own possession, I feel that the voicing of this idea was perhapes in some part, due to the need to offer assistance to our mutual friend, and further, perhapes explains the moniker to which i am assigned. He of much haste.
Again, my apologies, and i take much solace in the knowledge that young Spenboyd has had some small measure of success in the removal of the offending part.
On a final note, i feel it wise to point out that if we are to extend this form of correspond then I shall be forced to make haste to a purveyor of literature in order to aquire a tome of the Queens English, as it would seem my cranium will in all likely hood submit to internal pressures of explosive proportions.
yours
The Hasty One.
