Just order a cam from VPW or somewhere similar![]()
I had a crazy mate, whom intentialy nailed his VS into a power pole at 100clicks to write it off.......I did say he was crazy........anyhow, he's not sure how fast he really hit it, but he swerved for it at 100ish, smack in the middle, it pushed the engine right up into the firewall, the transmission up through the tunnel in the rear, completely anhilated the car............he got out, unscathed, well minor whiplash, jeez they really do work those crumble zones

I have emailed the RTA for info on the crash test. I will advise if they reply.
Re the cam
Although a 308 is a BIG engine, many or most people overcam engines when they replace a cam.
If a manual, you can go a little wilder but I would not go more than a cam which gives power from say 1500 to 5000.
On an auto go very mild or you will be driven mad by the thing stalling when you change into "D"
Most of the cam makers in Australia who have been going for a while are good.
I think Merv Waggott's son has restarted in Coffs or somewhere,Wade,Tighe,Crane( although Crane US has closed)
Why not find out which cam HSV used in the 5 litre .IMHO factory type cams are almost always better than aftermarket.

Hi Mick, Iskendarian made a fantastic grind for a 308, In conjunction with Rhoads lifters it was a great result, I can't remember the cam number but if I get the info next week I'll post it up.

The Isuzu 110. Solid and as dependable as a rock, coming soon with auto box😊
The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈
Any of the ones (names) mentioned will do the job - the main thing for the cam to work well is the correct profile for the transmission/heads, exhaust etc and that it's well lubed and run in properly. Take some time to degree it too. You know what they say, 'measure twice, cut once'.
There are cheap cam and lifter packages around but they're cheap for a reason.....
Have fun with it.
Matt.
Thanks heaps guys . After a heap of looking around and talking to a few mechanics . I have purchased a crow cam for $200. Rev range is 2000 to 4800 . the lobe lift is .487 on intake and exhaust valves . I'll be running a manual box and the motor will have a quadrajet , ported heads , anti pump lifters , chrome molly push rods , double row timing chain , chrome molly rings , crane roller rockers , high volume oil pump and pacemaker extractors . And will be running a shotgun scoop .

Thought about taking pics but when it's only the block and heads sitting on a stand at the moment doesn't seem worth it .
