    HiTuff halfshafts, flanges and spacers

i've just received my new halfshafts and flanges for claires 90 and as i thought might happen - i'm not going to be able to get the spacers back on as well.
i've taken a pic, and shaded in black the material i'd need to remove to be able to re-fit the spacers and want peoples thought's on this. i'm not interseted in the "spacers are illegal" comments but am intersted in wether anyone see's a problem with removing the amount of material needed. sorry about the link but was having trouble loading a pic up so it was the easiest way to go.
obviosly i'd need to remove the material from between each set of holes but have just shaded 1 for reference.

Taff, I really don't think that it will be a problem.

My spacers are circular on the inside though... what shape are yours?

you might like to chuck another pic up, as that one doesn't show me much,
a bit out of focus and not sure what you want to do.

thanks slunnie mine are also circular on the inside but due to the thickness of the flanges they need to come through the spacer - if that makes sense.
the inside of the spacer is circular with a cutout for the bolt so you dont need to remove the spacer to get a standard halfshaft out, but because the new hituff flanges are a pentagon??? (5 sided) the i need to remove the shaded bit to make the more circular - now your confused heh???

harry i'll have a go at a better pic now

Ahhh ok, that makes perfect sense.

How thick are the spacers? Another option which may be more suitable is to turn the spacers in a 4jaw chuck and machine a recess to allow for the flange. Admittedly its another 5 bolts if you break an axle, but thats not a big issue. Just thinking that the end cap is under a lot more stress than a wheel spacer, the machining will possibly be into a redundant area of the spacer and the machine time will be significantly less if you're paying for it or is an option if you dont have a milling machine.

the spacers are 30mm - scorpion racing billeted alloy ones. don't really want to touch the spacers as they are pretty exxy and hard to get what with postage form the u.k. the hi tuff flanges seem over engineered especially compared to a standard halfshaft so i thought it may be better to work on the flange but obviosly don't want to weaken it to a point where it was pointless fitting them. i want to keep the spacer for the offset and my missus likes the alloys on the car so if poss i want to keep them but if need be i'll buy a new set of zu rims or similar with a large offset built in and put her alloys and spacers on my rangie
    heres a better pic

    Hi Jason,
I think you will be fine machining that amount off the drive flanges, they are very strong and by the look of the shaded areas it seems like just a trim. Might be worth sending a pic to Barry at Hi Tough and get his opinion if your concerned about the strength. Got a good machinist if you need near my place.
    Cheers
