With fitting an Isuzu diesel into a newer Disco do you not have to meet minimal pollution requirements based on the age of the vehicle not the motor? I was under the impression you can always fit something newer motorwise than the original chassis but run into problems when you want to fit an older motor in a newer car. Sorry I've traveled a bit and this law may be in another country than Australia (I'm getting old I can't remember) but thought it was a good time to ask.

When I fitted my 4BD1T to my County, I had the ID plates off the truck that the engine came from. The engineer saw on the plate that the truck/engine was ADR30 (emissions) compliant, and he said that's all he needed to know about the engine, he hardly even glanced at the actual engine. It was an '88 engine going into an '88 County, but he didn't seem to be too concerned about the dates, as long as it was ADR30.
Obviously it's still worth checking out the actual rules, just to be sure though.

    Cheers, Murray
